First release of 2017 - guest vocal on 'Faith' by Ariel Maniki and the Black Halos

Happy new year!  2017 started with this release by Ariel Maniki and the Black Halos featuring a guest vocal from yours truly ... he released the track on New Year's day, in fact, so this blog entry is coming a bit late ...

I was honoured when Ariel reached out in October to ask me to collaborate, and became excited about the possibilities after I was able to check out some of his previous work.  When I heard the track, I was sold - it reminded me of early Cure in some ways, with his voice recalling Andrew Eldritch a bit.  Ariel didn't really give me any guideline for how he wanted to make the song a duet, so I suggested to him that I could basically take the second half of the song, with the idea being that he would sort of lay the groundwork in the first verse and chorus and I would build the emotion a bit from there ... after a session at Karl's studio that lasted all of about 40 minutes and an evening of combing over the vocal takes, my work was done and it was in Ariel's capable hands.  A bit of back and forth over the mix and then it was done ... and I'm very pleased with how it sounds and honoured to have been part of this.

So check it out - click the image below to get to the track on bandcamp.  Streaming is free, it's a 'pay what you want' download, which can be 'free' in theory but unless you're starving, if you like it please give him something ...

Happy 2017 everyone ...

Ian
